Heart Papers Border – Life as a Utopian Blogger

Real-Time Strategy games are fun, I’ve always enjoyed them. Especially the Civilization series from Sid Meyers. I’ve always found it thrilling and exciting to see how well you can outsmart an artificial intelligence. But what if I told you there was a game dubbed as the first “Optimistic Strategy Game”?

World Peace Everywhere

That’s right! Heart Papers Border an indie game being developed by “Jovian Industries” Instead of taking on the challenge of fighting other nations, or trying to more or less survive. You take on the role of a modern world blogger, who travels from country to country learning new things to write about! How cool is that? When I first launched the game, I was greeted with a charming tune, along with a greeting note from the developers.

Hopping right in I had no idea what to expect. When starting a new game you can create your own little passport for traveling. After that, it starts you off with a basic task. That task being to verify your passport, and to gain your traveling rights.

After this task, you’re pretty much going through a tutorial in a way, before being able to actually do things yourself. The tutorial-like part is very simple and just asks you to do a few tasks, which is visiting some landmarks. Little notification bubbles pop up on the side of your screen to give you hints, tell you tasks, etc. Most of the gameplay consists of you traveling the world of “Heart” and learning new things about each landmark you visit.

Making the Most of It

You’ll also be able to keep track of time, gain followers for your blog, and keep track of how much money you have. To do this, you’ll be spending some time in your “SpacePad” which is basically your average day tablet. In the “SpacePad” you’ll find a To-Do list in your “Journal” if you forgot what you’re doing. Check-out what location you’re at. Update your blog, which consists of you collecting hashtags regarding trending topics (The better the trend the more followers you gain). And you’ll be able to find out some information if you get lost within the “Help” tab.

I enjoyed playing this title, and when I first saw it, I knew I was going to love it. Plus there is so much to do, such as; having twenty-six different, vibrant, and rich countries to discover. One-hundred and thirty landmarks to explore and learn about. An exciting rich story, about culture, and daring adventures. Management that’s challenging but rewarding.

The music in this game makes you feel as if you’re actually exploring an exotic extraterrestrial planet. The graphics are very well put together to give a retro-like abstract feel to it. Heart Papers Border Shines a light on the possibility of a free world where you could travel. A planet true to the idea of a Utopian society. It has great potential and I enjoyed having the chance to play it!

If you’d like to check out Heart Papers Border you can pick it up on Steam Early Access for $7.99. releasing on Windows, MacOS, Linux, iOS, and Android with future plans of adding more language support!
